G4 Altivec performance

xlr8yourmac.com Notes that the G4 450 also beats a 1GHz Athlon in RC5 (not sure what it is exactly, some encryption stuff or so). I had noted earlier that the G4 beats the 1GHz Athlon in Photoshop filters, as soon as they are Altivec enhanced.

Crusoe revealed!

Shugashack finally has the facts on Transmeta's Crusoe chip family. As far as I can tell, this is quite a revolutoinary approach to microprocessing: The chips have a 128bit architecture and are fully software configured. With code morphing they can handle all current instruction sets and at speeds of 400-700MHz and only 1 Watt of power consumption, they have avery good start... That means it is the fastest mobile capable chip in the world today. And even better: IBM is a partner of Transmeta. Read all of it....and more:
