Athlons with more Cache?

Shugashack notes that AMD speechpersons told the press that both the Spitfire and the Thunderbird chip (upcoming) will feature more on-die level 2 cache than the Coppermine P3s. That suggests for 512k of L2 cache. AMD expects the new chips to outperform the Coppermines in data intensive applications due to the larger cache. Question remains whether AMD will be able to keep the costs and power consumption low enough to make the chip successful. What is clear already, is that due to the larger cache, the chip will have far more transistors than before, most certainly making it very big in size.
