First V5 benchmarks

Shugashack notes that the first alpha silicon benchmarks for the Voodoo5 5500 AGP (the one we DON'T get) have been released on the web. Quite impressive, although, in the example they showed, useless, since you won't notice the difference between 78 and 98 FPS.

AMD ships mobile chips

the register notes that AMD has begun shipping their new moble processors based on the K6-2 and the K6-III cores. The chips clock in at 4-50, 475 and 500MHz and support 3DNow as well as up to 1MB of L2 cache. Compared to Intels solutions, these chips definitely do have future.

New PDA from Microsoft

MacNN reports that MS will be presenting their new and revamped WindowsCE child called "PocketPC". The new handheld computer is aimed at competing Palm with their 83% market share in the PDA market.

DVD chips from C-Cube

the register has the report on Apple's deal with C-Cube to buy DVD compression chips for the final touch in terms of DV (Desktop Video). Might be an interesting feature for upcoming Macs, really.

Macs to come woth 200MHz DDR SDRAM?

MOSR notes that Apple may be aiming to introduce 200MHZ DDR SDRAM with their next range of PowerMacs already (G4e, Shark). Of course that would mean quite a lot of a price rise, but hey, 3200MB/sec bandwidth is very sexy, isn't it?

A reader from Gamegear let us know that he had contacted the guys behind the Razor Boomslang mouse and asked them about the release date for the Mac drivers to these superb USB mice. Their response was that they aimed Mac drivers at an end of April release together with Windows NT support. Good news for all FPS game fans.
