Voodoo5 previews

IMG and xlr8yourmac.com have the first Mac only preview of the Voodoo5 card for Mac (PCI). The results on both sides are anywhere from amazing, Mike Breeden found some serious driver/firmware problems that can yet be fixed for the retail boards, but the other limitations that are due to software and hardware implementations in the Mac platform, can not be solved in the short run. Make sure to cehck out the forums at IMG for some popular feedback. I must say I'm glad I bought a Voodoo3, after all it saved me 230$ compared to a Voodoo5. (which would have performaed equally in my machine). Let's wait for retail cards and see then, and Radeon is still on the way too.
These sites also have previews:

Write on your Mac?

the register notes that Apple is developing a handwriting-recognition software package for use on normal desktop Computers running Mac OS X or OS 9. Working together with Wacom, Apple is digging up some old Newton technology for the writing-recognition software. Would be cool if I could just handwrite the updates, oh yes it would.

SOI surfaces, finally

the register also notes that IBM has released their first server based on SOI chips. The AS/400e is dubbed to be faster than all the others (who wouldn't say that), but more importantly it finally introduces the Silicon-On-Insulator technology. Some thing we've been expecting to come to the PowerPC for quite a while now. If all goes well, the G4e might already be SOI'ed as a standard, if you ask me. (but on the other hand we know Motorola and IBM don't get along well, so maybe it will be the 750CXe, instead of the G4e).

More ATI tragedy

AppleInsider has what might be the final scoop on the ATI PR leak debacle. If all those theories on Steve's rage against ATI are true, then I start to feel Bill Gates is nice. How stupid are you Steve? Punish ATi, by cutting your own flesh? Yeah, sure...uhuuh &(
