OpenGL feedback

xlr8yourmac has gotten a small comparison between OpenGL 1.1.4 and 1.2.1 from a reader. Obviously no big changes with the Voodoo5, but a +13 FPS gain with the Rage 128 Pro. Boy, that's surely nice to get:) Toast also got updated btw.

3dfx confirms

Shugashack. put up a short note on yesterdays news that 3dfx moved out of the hardware business. They now confirmed that and say that they'll license their next-gen chips to external production facilities/companies. If you ask me, that's a good thing, since it's going to give users more choice and probably also better products. They (3dfx) want to stick in the retail market, but don't want to do it themselves. Best thing you can do is read this article.

Comdex part 2

FiringSquad has posted part 2 of their Comdex coverage, talking about AMD, Matrox and ATI. The last being the most interesting one for Mac users, I guess.

P4 coming Monday?

TechWeb says Intel is going to unveil their new architecture chip "Pentium 4" on Monday. Someone explain me why they call a chip, that has a completely new architecture the same as their last one. Leaving aside that Pentium actually already means "5". So now their new chip is called 5-4, and is completely different from 5-3 and 5-2 and of course 5MMX and 5. At least the new chip is believed to outperform the P3, mostly because it ships at 1.4 to 1.5 GHz in the beginning.
