Streaming media standard
the register notes that Apple, Sun, Cisco Systems and several other companies have founded an open standard organisation that's going to take care of a new MPEG 4 based media streaming technology. The Internet Media Streaming Alliance (ISMA) is already working hard on getting the first things done. The first running programms might appear sometime next year, probably with QuickTime 5.5 or so. Real and Microsoft are not part of the alliance, for obvious reasons.
Faster than I thought
MacCentral notes that a company called by the name of Oak, has developed a controller for a CD-RW/DVD drive on a single chip. The new technology might pave the way for combined CD-RW/DVD drives in laptops, as opposed to what I said a few days ago.
