The register coverage

the register has some more details on the ship date of Mac OS X, and especially, when it is going to be bundled (think MWNY).
They also have some thoughts on Apple's new vision and plans for the market, probably explaining that a bit better than my lines yesterday.
And last but not least, it turned out that at least the 667 and 733MHz version of the PowerMac G4 will be using Motorolas new MPC7450 (or V'Ger/G4+/G4e) chip. That is also why they're not shipping yet, as mass production has only just started, and yields are still low. Good to know though:)
Work.com also confirmed this and noted in another news item that Apple's shares went up by as much as 6% yesterday.

Myth III announced

Shugashack also notes that GoD has announced "Myth III: The Wolf Age" has been announced and should be ready in November. There are several new features planned and versions for Windows, Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. Good to hear.

Mac OS 9.1 available

Apple has released the 9.1 update for Mac OS 9.x yesterday. The download is free, the update CD is 20$ and the full version is already available in the Apple Store. I hope this fixed some slowdown issues Mac OS 9 had, so I might update to Mac OS 9.1 one day. I'm still using 8.6 (which is great btw), but fewer and fewer apps that come out still support that OS... (I want iTunes!!)

CES coverage part 1

FiringSquad has posted their first part of this years Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Check it out, after all the Xbox isn't that bad at all and the Nintendo GameCube is quite cute. Ugly colors, but cute design, and it has a G4 derived chip inside:)

Looking at the G4 PowerBook

MacWEEK takes a closer look at the G4 PowerBook "Titanium". I still think this is going to be a great hit once it's available. Have a look.

Official G4 statement

MacObserver, has Motorola's official press release for the MPC7450 chip that is feature in both the 667 and 733MHz versions of the new PowerMac, including 256KB of on die L2 cache at an 1:1 ratio and 1 MB of off-die L3 cache at an 3:1 ratio, all this plus an enhanced Velocity engine and a new seven stage pipeline, wider datapaths and all you could possible want. Very nice indeed.

Quake3 scores from the front

xlr8yourmac has gotten some news from Remy (from Utterer.com), that they have tested Q3A on the 733MHz machine with the GeForce2 MX. FPS varied between 60 and 125+. Yeehhaa, finally a Mac that can easily keep up with any PC out there. Very nice.
There are also some news on the PB G4, that apparently has some kind of speed-step function that has the CPU operate between 300 and 500MHz, depending on how much power you'd like to waste. There are many other useful tips over there as well. Some first OS 9.1 feedback for example.

MacNN has some news on the CD-RW drives and SuperDrives that are being used in the new PowerMacs and how fast they read and write the different media.

MGL all new

MGL has gotten a facelift, as expected (don't remind me that I still have to do mine), and has some general gaming news that might be interesting for everyone.

IMG also has a coverage along with several press releases from nVidia and some bad new from Creative Labs, who discovered some last minute bugs and are therefore not shipping the SoundBlaster Live cards yet. Check it out.
