Various
xlr8yourmac
has some good news from a G4/533 with GeForce2 MX user (a whole article with benchmarks, specs etc), an interesting comment from a nVidia employee talking about future driver and ROM (!!) upgrades, a performance comparison of the PowerBook G4 with other machines and finally some tinkering tips for Plaintalk Mics.

Sad stuff
Shugashack
has some shocking news for us. I'll start with the one that is more understandable: BarrysWorld, famous for sporting dozens of FPS game severs online (Quake 3 for example), has run out of cash and will get their servers off the web on February 5th. That's surely going to piss off several gamers, me included.
And, even more shocking: Latest rumors indicate that Microsoft again seems to aim Halo towards an XBox (pron.: ExBugs) only title. That would mean no PC version, and therefore most certainly also no Mac version (although that is not a necessity). I sure hope this is only a joke or bad rumor, because it would once again confirm that those guys at Microsoft suck major ass.
Remember their claims that all decisions concerning their games and which platforms they'd be released on were left to Bungie and that they wanted to bring out a Mac version too etc... They better had release it for the PC/Mac, or there's going to be a LOT of trouble on the net for a LONG time, believe me.

SuperComputer galore
the register
has news on two new supercomputers that were announced, one being more powerful than the other again and again. How does 10-20'000 Alpha chips or 100 terraflops sound?
Or do you prefer the one with 132 Athlons?

30GB 2.5" HDs
the register
notes that Toshiba is now shipping samples of their newest 2.5" form factor harddrives for notebooks and appliances, using a 15GB/platter technology at 4200rpm. That should also pave the way for drives bigger than the almost holy 30GB limit that has been around for far too long now.

Thoughts on the G4 PB
MacCentral
writes what they think about the PowerBook G4 "Titanium" (I'm so sick of that word already). They look at it as a very decent games platform (according to the benchmarks of Barefeats.com it's faster than a Dual G4 500 with Rage 128 Pro) and generally look at the good and bad sides of this beautiful new machine.

Bad news
MacWEEK
has some bad news and numbers from Apple, detailing the decrease of sales and profits during the last year. Quite alarming if you look at it. However, not very informative, until we can compare with the numbers that are being written as we speak.

Mac OS X
Slashdot
notes that there seems to be some interesting new info on Mac OS X at Apple, as well as another article concerning Apple and the future in the NewYork Times. If you haven't read enough already, this might be your choice.

Mac OS X (more interesting one)
MOSR
has some new info on how well Mac OS X is doing at the moment, at that it seems to be well within schedule for a timely release.

SoundBlaster to be BTO
IMG
has gotten word from Brian Souder, that Apple may indeed offer the SoundBlaser LIVE! card as a BTO in the AppleStore, once it's available.
