Various

xlr8yourmac has some news on topics from yesterday, among them that the speed of the L3 cache in the G4s is indeed 1/4 and not 1/3. However it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Unreal 2 news

Shacknews has a lot of news on Unreal 2, its technology and so on. They also note that Half-Life has gotten its 8374629834681645th update, which only confirms Valves fear abotu not being able to support the Mac version after the port. There has never been a game with so many patches and updates I think.

1GHz sooner

than the register expected. Well, sooner than anyone expected too I guess. MOSR seems to think that Motorola is capable of pushing the 7450 chip to 1GHz until August, making 800,866,933 and 1000MHz feasible for an MWNY release. That would mean I'll get at least 1GHz around Xmas, yeah:)
MOSR has the original article and more.

Cube is dead

the register notes that Apple seems to be abandoning the PowerMac G4 Cube. Aparently neither price cuts nor performance bumps were able to distract the public's attention from the lack of upgradeability. The Cube is a flop, so to speak, despite its world-shaking design. Well probably not see any new models of the Cube as we know it in the future.

Heheh

Read this funny fake interview with Steve Jobs about upcoming Macs and Mac OS X. Warning, there's a lot of bogus in there.

GeForce 3 dilemma

MacWorld has an interesting thought on why the fate of the GeForce 3 is by no means set and bright. The past has shown that processors and hardware that need extra software modifications are hardly accepted. While I believe that the GeForce will surely get more support than other such technologies, it is still uncertain how many games are going to support it.
