xlr8yourmac
notes that using the ROM files that come with the Titanium PowerBooks G4 may result in increased performance on other machines, as well as the fact that Photoshop 4 is faster for some tasks than 5.5 or 6.0.1. Word 4 is faster than Office 2001 too...

Xbox tapes out
Shacknews
notes that Microsoft's game console Xbox is hardware-finalized (namely taped out, or "gone gold", althouth that term is used for software titles, Shacknews is aware of that). Now all that is left for Bill and co to do is wait for the software developers to finish their titles and cut a few dozen features here and reduce the level count a bit there. I hope they're patient enough NOT to do this.

Pentium 4 starts to show
the register
often wrongly laughed at from the AMD and Apple communities, the Pentium 4 is now starting to show significant performance boosts, if the software is properly adapted and optimized for it. The newest evidence I'm talking about are some leaked 12.00 drivers from nVidia, who seem to be vigorously optimized for the chip and churn up up to 190% of the performance of the same cards/machines with earlier drivers.
I was telling you the P4 had potential, and was just waiting for it to be unleashed, after all this reminds me a lot of Altivec.

First rub, then shoot
TechWeb
is not talking about self-induced manual satisfaction, but about IBM's new method of producing LCD displays. A former, 95 year old technology included rubbing the crystals in place with a velvet cloth, while the new process shoots atoms at the surface without physical contact to it. The new process is expected to lower the price and improve the quality of the screens.

No more 17" CRT from Apple
MacCentral,
among others, notes that Apple is discontinuing the production of it's 17" CRT displays and will most likely be shifting to a pure LCD family of displays. I'm not such a fan of LCDs, but I wasn't a big fan of Apple's CRT screens either, so I guess noone is going ot get hurt.

Apple are leechers?
Slashdot,
has a link to an article that claims Apple was using open source code of eager programmers to build their own operating system out of it (Mac OS X). THis may also be true, I won't deny that, but after all, you're not forced to release your stuff as open source. If you do, you have no right to moan afterwards.
