GeForce 4 Titanium BTO announced, as predicted

xlr8yourmac notes that Apple has issued a press release stating that in a month you'll can have GeForce 4 Ti graphics cards with any of the current PowerMac models for an additional 250 or 350$, depending on what you replace (GeForce 4 MX or Radeon 7500).
(Talking about these cards: Mike also made a few benchmarks of various applications, testing the GeForce 4 MX and the Radeon 7500 on a dual 1GHz PowerMac.)
The GeForce 4 Ti BTO will also be available as a separate kit for owners of older PowerMacs sometime in Spring.
MacCentral has some more info, and the original press release can be found here.
IMG has the news and promises some coverage from the nVidia release event later.

Can we trust MS?

TechWeb discusses whether Microsoft's new "we want you to have a safe computer experience"-propaganda is really backed up by some hard facts and real actions. They already released a 17MB security patch for one of their Windows (2000 I think), so at least they pretend to be doing something. Let's hope they really do.

The (almost) 9 inch dream

ZDnet takes an interesting look at Intel's next server chip, the successor to Itanium, code-named McKinley. Unfortunately the chip will have a die size of an astounding 464 square millimeters. That's arguably the biggest die size in history for a chip like this one. Of course this will make it expensive and hard to produce...but read on yourself.

MacWorld UK has some ideas about "surprises" at the upcoming QuickTime Live! event from Feb. 11-14. All we know for sure is that there will be a "super secret workshop". Of course that is enough to make up some rumors.

Compression of the future?

InfoWorld reports on a company that claims to have found ways to compress digital data by a factor of 100:1 without losing any of the original data. (ie. no quality loss) They say it's based on multi-dimensional mathematics, so I have no clue about it, but since it's not going to be ready for while, I'll be happy to wait.
